In a move that has been highly anticipated since Colorado Rockies prospect pitcher Jeff Hoffman was scratched from his start on Friday, the club has indeed called him up to make the Sunday start and placed Tyler Anderson on the Disabled List, according to reports from CBS and Fanrag in addition to a few of our own sources. The Anderson move has not yet been announced by the team.
At this time, BSN Denver has not learned the full nature of Anderson’s injury though we suspect he will be placed on the 10-day DL to start.
Anderson had a stretch of four quality starts before giving up six runs in his last outing where he just couldn’t seem to keep the ball down in the strike zone. He is the second Rockies pitcher to go on the DL this month, just a few days after reliever Adam Ottavino had to go on the 10-day DL with shoulder inflammation.
Hoffman has already made two spot starts for Colorado in 2017, winning both of them. He has had an up-and-down season at Triple-A Albuquerque which is to be expected in the PCL. He will get an afternoon start in San Diego against the Padres which should be a friendly environment.
