When Broncos new right tackle Ty Sambrailo was asked about facing Von Miller and Demarcus Ware everyday in practice, he turned to the reporter and said, “I believe that iron sharpen’s iron.” He added, “Playing against those guys should make it a lot easier for me every Sunday.”
The uber-confident big man was with his family when he got the call from Mr. Elway. “I got the phone call and kind of stood up and walked away” Ty told the Denver media on Saturday. He added, “My family knew something was up, but they didn’t know who it was. People were pretty excited and yelling and cheering. By the time I came out of the room, the pick was being announced right as I walked in. It was pretty crazy, exciting and a lot of fun.”
The fun stops here though. Now Ty Sambrailo will compete with Michael Schofield and Chris Clark for the starting right tackle position. Elway and Kubiak both said that he’s the type of player that could come in and play on day one and I’m sure that this is exactly what’s expected of him.
For Sambrailo he will have to get used to the right side though. While Clark and Schiofield were practicing and playing right tackle last year, Ty was playing left tackle at CSU. How will he do on the right side? “Repetition kind of smooths everything over,” Ty said. “Over these last few months, just taking more reps at right tackle and coming up in the mini camps and OTAs, getting more reps at right tackle will make it kind smooth.”
Ty has already talked to Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler and seems very comfortable with the whole situation. He even told a reporter at the end of his press conference that he can still do a back flip. He said that he wouldn’t but promised that he still could.”
