DENVER – The good news keeps on pouring in for DU hockey fans. After Denver head coach Jim Montgomery announced on Friday that he removed his name from the Florida Panthers head coaching vacancy, he went on Kreckman and Harris on Monday and declared that Troy Terry and Henrik Borgström would be back for another season.

“Troy Terry and Henrik Borgström are going to be back,” Montgomery told Altitude Sports Radio 950. “I have 100% confidence in that.”

The pair of future NHLers were the top two goal scorers for the Pioneers during their championship season. Terry lead the way with 22 goals and 23 assists while Borgström was right behind him with 22 goals and 21 assists.

Terry’s drafted rights belong to the Anaheim Ducks who drafted him in the 5th round of the 2015 draft (148th overall). Borgström was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 1st round of the 2017 draft (23rd overall).

Montgomery also gave an update on the team’s third leading scorer, Dylan Gambrell, with a little less confidence. His rights are owned by the San Jose Sharks, who drafted him in the second round last year (60th overall).

“He might be looking for a new challenge,” Montgomery said on the radio. “I would think he’s 75% returning to Denver.”

If the Pioneers only lose one non-senior, it can easily be considered a successful offseason for the defending national champions, especially with all of the poaching coming from the NHL. The Pios should be well equipped for another run at a national championship in 2018.
