Senior Day; it’s a special time for players and fans alike.
But for the folks of Fort Collins, Senior Day was just another Saturday.
Sure, 26 seniors were celebrated before the game, each individually being called out by name and applauded by the crowd. Whatever crowd there happened to be mixed in with all the empty seats at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.
The sad part was the lack of support for Colorado State football in this, the final home game of the season. And to think, there are only six more home games in this stadium ever after today.
While Hughes seats 32,500 people, only 15,641 showed up Saturday. That’s not even half full. That’s simply a sad showing. Especially when considering this was a must-win game for the Rams in keeping their bowl hopes alive for a third straight season. Even free pizza from head coach Mike Bobo couldn’t get the students to fill their stands by picking up free tickets.
Well, fans weren’t happy.
@RichKurtzman wow, felt like much more.

(This one, with Jean Luc Picard is the winner, by the way.)

Look, the Rams have been winning. They’ve gone 23-14 over the last three seasons, including their current 5-5 record at this point. If CSU wins one more game of their final two — which they likely will — it will mean a third straight bowl game. Or at least eligibility.
I get it: Colorado State has disappointed some fans. They expected another 10-win season like last year, but that’s just not a reality when it comes to a head coach in his first year with a program.
The Rams weren’t going to go undefeated, not this year anyway, and fans should strive to find contentness while continuing to hope for more.
Simply, CSU has been winning and they’re still not selling games out. OK, they sold out two home games this year — against Minnesota and Air Force — but 2-6 isn’t enough. Neither is 15k and change for Senior Day.

@RichKurtzman That's like an offense only practice in Madden.

Also, Mark Knudson of Mile High Sports asked if I thought Rashard Higgins would return to CSU for his senior season. Here’s my response, but you can read it in full — with quotes from “Hollywood” Higgins himself, here.
