Trey Paster, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound inside linebacker announced on Twitter that he will transfer from Cal to Colorado State.
The former three-star prospect was offered by multiple Pac-12 programs in the 2020 cycle, including Arizona and Oregon, before he ultimately signed with the Golden Bears. Fresno State also recruited him out of Buhach Colony High School. As did Nevada back when Jay Norvell was still leading the Wolf Pack in Reno.
Over the last three years, Paster played in 20 total games for Cal. His most productive season was his sophomore campaign in 2021 when he recorded 25 total tackles, 4.5 of which were for a loss. He recovered a pair of fumbles and had three pass breakups to boot.
Despite having somewhat of a breakout year in 2021, Paster’s role decreased in 2022 and he recorded just one tackle all season. So it’s not surprising at all that he elected to enter the portal as a graduate transfer. Paster will have two years of eligibility to play in the Green & Gold.
With the addition of Paster on the defensive side, the Rams have now added five transfers since the conclusion of spring football. He is the fourth player from a power conference to choose CSU as his next destination since the end of the 2022 season, joining tight end Dallin Holker (BYU), cornerback Ron Hardge (Oregon State) and offensive tackle Bobby Lawrence (Missouri).
