The Denver Broncos conducted their second practice of training camp on Friday in front of a larger crowd than Thursday’s disappointing turnout. On a team full of stars on the defense, the offense seemed to be the stars on this day, with highlight plays and one-on-won victories throughout the practice.

BSN Denver was on hand for the full two and a half hour practice, here’s what we saw:

Offense wins 1v1 work

The most exciting period of the day was the one-on-one work for the perimeter players. The wide receivers took on the corners with nobody out there but them and the quarterback.

Now, it’s important to note that without any semblance of a pass rush, a cornerback’s already insanely tough job even harder. With that said, the offense definitely made it look that way today.

Emmanuel Sanders beat Chris Harris three times in a row on underneath routes, Cody Latimer beat Kavon Webster multiple times, Kalif Raymond was getting open with his insane foot speed, Bralon Addison had a nice catch up the sideline, Benny Fowler made some nice plays in front of Bradley Roby.

Aside from a few plays, it seemed the only balls that weren’t completed were due to bad passes by the quarterbacks despite the lack of pressure.

On the defensive side, Lorenzo Doss had a second consecutive good day with a couple of pass breakups, and Bradley Roby had a crafty strip of Benny Fowler after he made a catch underneath.

Despite all of those big plays but the offense, though, one player not yet mentioned had the greatest day of all.

Taylor time

No, not Tool Time with Tim Taylor but Jordan Taylor sure has a nice set of tools as a receiver, and he showed them off today. It seems he always brings his best in front of the fans at training camp. If you remember last year, he was the subject of a lot of media hype throughout the few weeks.

Early in the one-on-one period, Taylor had what seemed like it may be the play of the day when he beat B.J. Lowry on a deep post for a touchdown from the hand of Trevor Siemian. Little did anyone know, though, that Taylor would top that play later in practice.

Matched up with Taurean Nixon this time, Taylor attempted a double-move and was blanketed by Nixon as he attempted to streak up the sideline. The ball may have been thrown a bit early, so when Taylor looked up, the ball was already right on top of him. The 6-foot-5 receiver found the ball, reached all the way back and made an incredible one-handed catch.

Taylor has great speed to go along with his great hands and has a legit shot to make this roster. With the competition at hand, though, he’s going to have to continue to make that type of play on a regular basis to separate himself.

Paxton –> Marlon

Just before the first day of training camp, the Broncos signed former Ravens wide receiver, Marlon Brown, and Brown hasn’t skipped a beat.

The 6-foot-5, 215 pounder is easy to spot on the field due to his large stature and long dreadlocks and he’s also been standing out because he’s making plays.

While he is working with the third team and Paxton Lynch most of the time, Brown has made an impact, running sharp routes and catching all the balls sent his way. He has been a nice target for Lynch on a multitude of plays and Kubiak talked after practice about why that’s happened so fast.

Notes

  • It wasn’t all offense all the time on Friday, on one of the first throws of the 11-on-11 period, Chris Harris Jr. picked off Mark Sanchez with a spectacular diving catch. While Kubiak said after practice that it was all in the plan, Trevor Siemian led the first team the rest of practice.
  • Devontae Booker got some run with the first team on Friday and looked good in his opportunities.
  • Paxton Lynch worked pretty exclusively with the threes while the other two split time with ones and twos. Despite Kubiak saying he would like the players to have equal reps across the board, Lynch definitely took the most reps today.
  • Juwan Thompson broke off a big run in the 11-on-11 period, showing he still has some speed despite adding the bulk to play fullback.
  • Jordan Norwood looked to be clearly the best in the return game today, if he can stay sharp there, he could solidify his roster spot.
  • Brandon McManus hit a 60+-yard field goal at the end of the 11-0n-11 period that clinched a helmet free finish to practice for the rest of the team.
  • Phil Taylor injured his knee and will need an MRI and Sly Williams injured his shoulder; Kubiak said after practice that they would know more tomorrow.
