DENVER — In an attempt to conserve the 45 days Torrey Craig can spend with the Nuggets this season under his two-way contract, the 6-foot-6 forward will not play Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs.
Craig, 27, has been an integral part of Nuggets’ coach Michael Malone’s rotation for most of this season and is averaging 22.6 minutes across five games in February.
Craig finished with six points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes in Denver’s 121-104 win over the Hornets on Monday and had eight points and four rebounds in 28 minutes two nights later against the Rockets. Craig played 16 minutes in the Nuggets’ 123-113 win on Saturday over the Suns.
Under his two-way contract, Craig is also not eligible for Denver’s playoff roster. The Nuggets could sign Craig to a regular NBA contract so he could play in the playoffs if Denver qualifies, but the Nuggets are without an open roster spot.
On the season, Craig is averaging 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 16.1 minutes per game.
Craig is still with the team but won’t be on the Nuggets’ bench Tuesday.
