SAN ANTONIO — The shots are finally falling. In Game 1, 3-point shooting doomed the Nuggets as they lost home-court advantage. They’ve progressively gotten better on the offensive end, though, and in Game 4, they buried the Spurs under an avalanche of 3s.
Torrey Craig hit five deep balls, and Jamal Murray and Will Barton hit three a piece as Denver got a 117-103 win to knot the series at two games to two to regain home-court advantage. The Nuggets shot 15 for 31 from downtown as a team.
Craig and Barton both played well after flip flopping in the lineup. Craig was moved in with the starters while Barton came off the bench after struggling in Games 2 and 3. Craig scored 18 points, coming up huge in a game when his name was called. Barton, meanwhile, had 12, appearing to regain some of his confidence after consecutive 1-for-10 and 2-for-6 shooting performances.
Nikola Jokic also had a big game. The big man carried Denver early and wound up with 29 points on 10-for-22 shooting, 12 rebounds and eight assists. He did most of his work down low and dominated the matchup against Jakob Poeltl.
The game shifted in the third quarter. Denver, which outscored San Antonio 37-25, played its best 12-minute stretch of basketball in that time.
The Nuggets snapped a 14-game losing streak with the win. Game 5 is Tuesday in Denver.
