Top of the Rockies: Highlighting the best moments and players for the Colorado Rockies in 2021

The Colorado Rockies’ 2021 season can be viewed at various points along the spectrum, including those at the most extreme.

A failure due to a fourth-place finish in the National League West, the 74-87 record is the organization’s third consecutive losing season. With cornerstones Trevor Story and Jon Gray approaching free agency and payroll not yet equipped to climb back into the upper half among MLB’s 30 clubs, a consciousness of the burgeoning minor league prospects begins to provide the biggest semblance of hope, albeit several years down the line.

A success based upon countless experts predicting upwards of 100 losses, Colorado finished 2.5 and 4.5 games behind a pair of offseason darlings in the New York Mets and San Diego Padres, respectively. The starting rotation with one of the brightest corps suggests it can carry even an average offense – one that will be the focus of offseason improvement – could support a Wild Card contender as early as next season.

What is clear about 2021 is that Rockies fans were provided with several memorable moments, unforgettable highlights and many great performances from their hometown nine, regardless of your take on a club with a .460 winning percentage.

Over the course of the next two weeks, DNVR Rockies will be distributing awards to the best moments and individuals that contributed to Colorado’s 29th season. Since the history of the franchise should be celebrated with every opportunity, each of the individual player awards will pay tribute to a Rockies great that best encapsulates the honor.
