The Denver Broncos 2015-16 season has been a wild, wild ride. rrom Week 1 all the way to the AFC Championship the Broncos have simply made the big play at the right time, giving us plenty of material while also creating some very tough decisions.o
Relive the road to the Super Bowl with our top five moments of the Broncos 2015-16 season!
Number Five: Stew’s Snag
As stated above, since Week 1 the Broncos have been pulling it out when it mattered most. In the first of many ugly games for Denver, Joe Flacco and the Ravens were moving down the field trying to put together a game-winning drive. On 3rd-and-10 from inside the red zone with just over 30 seconds on the clock, the Broncos brought pressure, forcing Flacco to throw off his back foot. The ball actually reached the hands of CSU product, Crockett Gillmore, but Darian Stewart, in his first game as a Bronco, ripped the ball away for a game-clinching interception.
The Broncos defense had picked up Peyton Manning on a day when he was far from his best. What an omen that would be.
Number Four: Roby’s Robbery
The second time in for days the Broncos offense had struggled to produce and the second time in four days the defense provided a game-winning play.
Following a vintage Manning drive that came out of nowhere to tie the game, it seemed the Chiefs would just take a knee and send the game to overtime. Instead, Alex Smith handed off to Jamaal Charles, who scampered to the left side of the field before running into Stewart and Brandon Marshall. B-Marsh stuck a mitt on the ball and punched it out, bouncing right into the hands of Bradley Roby who took it to the crib for an improbable victory.
Has it been destiny for Denver all along?
Number Three: CJ’s Scamper
The Osweiler era was long underway, Brock-Mania was starting to take over the 5280, the only thing standing behind between the new guy and full support of the fanbase was Tom Brady.
After falling behind by two touchdowns, Brock and the Broncos forged a furious comeback that featured a showcase of Osweiler’s downfield throwing ability and forced overtime.
In the extra period, on 3rd-and-1, Osweiler checked out of the original play and called C.J. Anderson‘s No. 22. C.J. took it off the left edge and sent Brady and the Patriots packing, further cementing the fact that Tom Brady struggles mightily in Denver.
Nothing could stop the Brock train or so we thought.
Number Two: Return of the Mann
Following another loss by the Patriots, this time, at the hands of the Miami Dolphins — Brock Osweiler and the Denver Broncos were a win over the lowly San Diego Chargers away from a fifth consecutive AFC West title and the number one seed in the playoffs. The only problem was, they kept shooting themselves in the foot, turning the ball over five times in just over a half of play.
Gary Kubiak decided something had to change, he went with his gut and put in the, finally healthy, Peyton Manning to spark the team and boy did it work. Manning came in to one of the most unique ovations in the history of Mile High, it wasn’t the loudest or the craziest, but it had a different tone, a tone of hope that maybe the wily-vet was indeed the Broncos best hope to get back to the Promised Land.
Manning didn’t play out of his mind, but the spark provided kicked the team into a new gear and they went on to clinch that No. 1 seed.
Number One: Trophy Time, Confetti Time, Super Bowl Time
Some of the other picks were tough, this one was a no-brainer.
With twelve seconds left on the clock, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots had put together an improbable touchdown drive but a missed extra point earlier in the game forced them to try a two-point conversion for a chance at OT.
Tom Brady dropped back and, like almost any other time he did so, he was immediately pressured. Brady was forced to throw across his body, Aqib Talib tipped the ball and Bradley Roby intercepted it. Shiloh Keo recovered a desperation onside kick and the confetti began to fall from the mile high sky.
All that’s left is to see how many more special moments the Broncos have in the bag on Feb. 7.
