According to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, the Colorado Rockies are dealing with yet another spring training loss to a player expected to make the Opening Day 25-man roster. Catcher Tom Murphy has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right forearm after being hit by Anthony Rizzo‘s bat in a game on Saturday.
Murphy is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, putting his timetable for return sometimes between when Chris Rusin and David Dahl should return and a little before Ian Desmond, all of which have gone down in the last week and a half.
Tony Wolters was almost certainly going to be the starter behind the dish, but now Dustin Garneau will likely be called upon to serve as the primary backup for the first month.
More as this develops.
