FORT COLLINS — TJ Crandall became the sixth member of the 2023 recruiting class to publicly announce his commitment to Colorado State.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Crandall is a three-star defensive back according to 247Sports. Along with CSU, the versatile athlete holds offers from Army, Arizona State, Idaho State and Yale. His Twitter page also shows interest from Nevada, Washington, Washington State, TCU and USC, though. In an interview with the Irish Sports Daily, Crandall talked about how Notre Dame was a program he had his eyes on as well.

A three-sport athlete at Skyline High School in Sammamish, WA, Crandall participates in basketball, track & field and obviously football. On the gridiron he saw action at running back, but primarily made a name for himself in the defensive backfield as a safety.

Crandall was initially offered by CSU on June 7, before taking his official visit this past weekend. After seeing everything the Rams have to offer, Crandall was sold enough to post his commitment on Twitter.

Unfortunately, Max Preps does not have accurate stats to reflect Crandall’s junior season, but looking at his Hudl film it’s clear that he has the ability to be an explosive play-maker in multiple facets of the game. The first clip is him returning a kickoff for a touchdown and what’s particularly impressive about the play is Crandall does not try to do anything cute, he pretty much just out-runs the entire opposing team down the sideline. On multiple other plays he displays good ball skills at DB and a strong ability to turn interceptions into touchdowns.

With Crandall now in the mix, CSU officially has six verbals that are public as of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 20. However, the coaching staff also tweeted about a big-time commitment for the wide receiver room over the weekend. So, it seems that the total is actually at least seven commits at the moment.
