The Tim Connelly era is over in Denver. Connelly, the Nuggets president of basketball operations who’s been in Denver since he was hired as general manager in 2013, is heading to Minnesota.
The news broke Monday morning. Connelly’s new contract as Wolves president of basketball operations will cover 5 years and will be worth $40M, per Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. They also report the agreement will include a kicker for ownership equity.
Connelly drafted Nikola Jokic 41st overall in 2014 and transformed the Nuggets’ roster from a lottery team into a championship contender.
Now, the Nuggets have to decide how they’ll move forward. General manager Calvin Booth has been a fixture within the organization since he was hired as assistant GM in 2017, and seems like the likely favorite to take over as Denver’s lead basketball decision-maker.
He’ll have a busy summer ahead with several important decisions to make as the Nuggets attempt to put a championship roster and rotation around Jokic.
