The Colorado Buffaloes upset of No. 9 ranked Arizona and their follow up win against Arizona State has them positioned perfectly for the NCAA Tournament. But where do the Buffs sit for their conference tournament?

Seed Scenarios

If Colorado ends up tied, the Buffs would hold tiebreakers against Arizona, California, Stanford and Oregon State. The only team they do not have the tiebreakers over is USC by virtue over CU’s loss which falls under the first tiebreaker of head-to-head record. The second tiebreaker is whichever team has the best record against the top team in the Pac-12. If that does not break the tie then it’s whichever team has the best record against the second-best team in the Pac-12 and that continues until the tie is broken.

Here are CU’s seed scenarios for Vegas going into this weekend:

Four-Seed (a Bye on the first day of the Pac-12 Tournament)

Colorado beats Utah and Arizona loses to California or Stanford

or

Colorado beats Utah and California loses to Arizona and Arizona State.

Five-Seed (Would play the 12-seed on day one)

Colorado beats Utah, Arizona beats California and Stanford, and California beats Arizona State

or

Utah beats Colorado and Oregon or Oregon State beat USC

Six-Seed (Would play the 11-seed on day one)

Utah beats Colorado and USC beats Oregon and Oregon State

Games by importance to Colorado:

Colorado plays Utah, Saturday at 7:30

California plays Arizona, Thursday at 7

California plays Arizona State, Saturday at 6

Oregon State plays USC, Wednesday at 9

Oregon plays USC, Saturday at 2

Fortunate Timing

Josh Fortune might just be getting hot at the right time, with six consecutive double-digit outings the Junior wing has become more efficient with his shot. In the last three games, he has taken 23 shots and made 15 of them, six of which were triples. He also may have solved his turnover troubles, only giving away the rock once in the last 62 minutes of gameplay, the transfer has chipped in five helpers over that time period as well.

“One of the things Josh [Fortune] and I talked about was making the game simple; take what they give you,” Tad Boyle said. “When you’re open, shoot it, when you’re not, pass it or put it on the floor and attack the basket. But, don’t try to over create; just make the simple play. He’s been doing a very good job of that. We want him to shoot when he’s open, you talk about an efficient line. That’s the Josh Fortune that can be a really really big asset to this team as we head down the stretch.”

“Payback”

“I will be honest and I think the word for us is payback,” Josh Scott said right after his final game at Coors Events Center. “[Utah] beat us on our home court and we would like to get them back. I am not going to shy around from saying that and that is something that all of us want.”

The Buffs finished with a 16-1 home record, their only loss came at the hands of Utah Utes. Not only will CU be potentially playing for a top four seed, but they can play spoiler and ensure Utah doesn’t take home the Pac-12 Regular Season Championship.

“That is an option,” Scott replied about getting a bye in Vegas. “But I don’t think that is really what our goal is. Like I said, it is payback.”

This Colorado team has a chance to become the first team in program history to record 22 wins in a regular season. To some, they probably should already have 22.

“We’re 16-1 (at home),” Boyle told. “The one game that we lost was Utah. They came in here and spoiled our undefeated season at home. We have an opportunity to play them at their place and I’d like to return the favor.”
