BST-Denver-1

Everything fell for the Buffaloes besides the sky on Wednesday night, as they shot 49.1% from the field en route to a rout of the Standford Cardinal, 91-75. Their record remains flawless at home when they score 70 or more points, and overall they improved to 16-5 (5-3).

Here are our three things that stood out:

Three-Point Shooting

The Buffs shot a spectacular 13-19 (68.4%) from behind the arc including 5-of-7 from Josh Fortune and 5-of-5 from George King.  The stellar shooting performance pushed the Buffs to 91 points.

It was good for CU to get two shooters hot at once, something that’s only happened a few times this season. When they are able to get multiple players to add scoring depth behind Josh Scott, the team can beat almost anyone in the country. On Wednesday night, the Buffs did just that and it happened about as efficiently as possible.

Dominique Collier

The sophomore guard has become the steady piece on the perimeter. Tonight, he had three assists and one turnover. His contributions off of the stat sheet were more important than the one’s he made on it.

“He made the plays that needed to be made,” Tad Boyle said. “Whether it was distributing the ball to other guys or making free throws. I think he went 4-4 from the free throw line so that’s when you need your floor general to take control, make sure you’re getting a great shot, make sure your best player is touching the ball. I thought Dom was terrific, especially in the second half during that stretch in getting us back in control of the game. Without a doubt, he’s making strides each and every game. It’s not always about stats. It’s sometimes about your floor game and that’s something he can do. He can have an effect without scoring or even getting assists but by getting the ball where it needs to be.”

Separation

With Wednesday night’s win, Colorado is now tied for the most conference wins in the Pac-12 at five. They trail Oregon and Washington by a half of a game, which means Sunday’s matchup against California, could have the Buffaloes playing for first place.
