The Denver Broncos welcomed a familiar face in Brock Osweiler back into the thin air of the Mile High City Monday night and gave him a rude welcome, simultaneously climbing back into the win column.

Denver was in control in all three phases of the Monday night contest and the team able to walk away with a 27-9 victory. Wade Phillips and his staggering Denver defense seemed to make the most of their mini-bye, coming out fresh and holding former Broncos’ gunslinger Brock Osweiler to 131 yards in the air on the night.

Everybody with a Bronco on their helmet chipped in and played what may have been their most complete game of the season. As always, though, we picked three standouts.

T.J. Ward

T.J. Ward has proven to be quite a valuable asset in the Wade Phillips-lead defense—both on and off the field.

Ward was practically all over the turf Monday night in the win against Houston, recording eight total tackles and one stellar assist with fellow safety Darian Stewart. The latter play helped jar the ball from Texans running back Alfred Blue, landing safely in the hands of a waiting Todd Davis.

“Obviously, he can play in the middle of the field, and he can play in the box,” head coach Gary Kubiak said after the win. “To be able to have a guy of T.J’s stature, his size and can play the run and go in the box and tackle, it’s hard to find those guys. T.J. is the guy that’s had to play a little bit of everywhere so he deserves a lot of credit.”

Emmanuel Sanders

The tandem of Trevor Siemian to Emmanuel Sanders is looking like it could be something spectacular.

Sanders hauled in four receptions on eight targets for a total of 86 yards, including a beautiful back-shoulder grab for a 31-yard gain. The play would set up the Booker touchdown run; all but sealing the win for the Orange & Blue.

No. 10 now leads the team with 499 yards from scrimmage this season and is showing no signs of slowing—as long as the “S-Connection” stays healthy.

Eric Studesville

Eric Studesville, Denver’s running backs coach for the past seven years, knows he has a duo of talented backs to do his dirty work on the gridiron—he got both to shine Monday night. C.J. Anderson and rookie Devontae Booker combined for 190 yards on 33 carries, a season high for the club.

Booker was able to slam his way through a pile of Texans for a one-yard score in the third quarter, the fist third quarter touchdown for the Broncos’ all season and the first of Booker’s career.

The rookie is starting to blossom at the perfect time as it reports surfaced Wednesday afternoon that Anderson could potentially miss a few weeks with a bone bruise in his knee.

The Broncos will look for more big performances from players and coaches as they welcome in the San Diego Chargers this Sunday.
