DENVER — The private funeral for Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was held on Monday afternoon at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Denver.

In a service that lasted well over an hour, more than 500 friends and family members from around the world gathered to celebrate and honor the life of Bowlen, who passed away on June 13 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Along with his family, including his wife Annabel, many notable figures were present for the ceremony.

Leading the Broncos’ delegation was John Elway, Joe Ellis and Vic Fangio, who flew into town for the ceremony during the team’s summer break, as well as many members of the organization.

Former head coaches Mike Shanahan, Gary Kubiak and John Fox were in attendance as well.

Many of Bowlen’s former players attended the service, including Peyton Manning, Steve Atwater, Floyd Little, Terrell Davis, Ed McCaffrey, Tom Jackson, David Bruton and fellow 2019 Hall of Fame inductee Champ Bailey.

Brandon McManus represented the active players at the ceremony in a blue suit.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Falcons owner Arthur Blank and Colts owner Jim Irsay were in attendance as well as the president of the Hall of Fame David Baker.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock were also in attendance at the ceremony just blocks away from the State Capitol.

Bowlen’s longtime friend John Finney delivered the eulogy, while many of Bowlen’s children spoke at the service.

John Bowlen led the family out of the cathedral carrying an urn.

On Tuesday, Bowlen’s ashes will be transported to Hawaii where they will be spread later in the week by his family.
