The Rockies plan for their rotation is becoming more clear

The Colorado Rockies start a road trip against NL West opponents on Friday and they have hinted at a small adjustment to their roster.

Right-handed rookie pitcher German Marquez has been listed in the bullpen while left-handed sophomore Tyler Anderson is with the starters. Anderson came off the disabled list yesterday which sent Carlos Estevez back to Triple-A.

Anderson has a rough April posting a 7.71 ERA but was better in May with a 3.94 ERA while pitching with a brace on his knee. He has been struggling with some knee issues all year and that is what kept him sidelined the past week or so.

It is extremely odd that Anderson was activated from the DL just to sit on the bench, he did pitch yesterday out of the bullpen but it’s still odd. It almost never happens where a starter is activated just to wait his turn back into the rotation.

Meanwhile, Marquez is still supposed to start on Sunday against the Dodgers and today could just be a bullpen day for him which they would use during the game if necessary.

Marquez has a 3.92 ERA in nine starts and did begin the season in the Rockies bullpen although he never made a relief appearance before Chris Rusin came off the DL in April.

Kyle Freeland is pitching tonight, Tyler Chatwood on Saturday, Marquez on Sunday and from Monday onwards in San Francisco is yet to be announced. As of now it looks like Marquez may have been moved back to the bullpen and Anderson into the rotation.

We’ll have more for you as it develops.

The other note from today’s lineup card is that Carlos Gonzalez is coming off the bench and Raimel Tapia is starting, signaling more time for the exciting rookie and less for the slumping veteran.
