The List: Using your athleticism and physical gifts

1.  Jerami Grant is 6’9″ with an 8’11” standing reach, a long stride, and an impressive vertical jump. So why does he so rarely put people on a poster?

2.  Michael Porter Jr., on the other hand, really maximizes his physical gifts. His cutting is phenomenal thanks in part to how actively he works to place himself in scoring position. Smaller defenders (which is 99.9% of defenders) have to crowd his space, weary of allowing him to shake free for a catch and shoot opportunity. That allows Porter Jr. to cut backdoor on cuts like this one.

3. One of the keys for the Nuggets against the Thunder was PJ Dozier and Monte Morris’s ability to get to the rim on plays like these ones. In both examples, Denver used a fake screen and quick release to the top of the key by their power forwards, Paul Millsap and Jerami Grant. That fake opened up a driving lane to the basket.

4. If the Nuggets didn’t play so slow (they rank 2nd to last in pace) they would probably produce a lot more plays like the one below, where Jokic is able to establish himself in the paint for a touchdown pass from Porter Jr.

5. This is a great example of the type of action Denver will absolutely crush with once they get Jamal Murray, Porter, and Jokic all on the court together.

6. This play demonstrates one of the many benefits on offense that arise from playing the longbois.
