The Jon Gray era will have to wait, for now

The Rockies have decided to assign their top prospect to minor league camp.

Gray posted a 5.93 ERA this spring in 13.2 innings pitched, striking out 11 batters. Not a great line but he did show flashes of the pitcher Colorado hopes he can become.

It may not be long before we see Jon Gray back pitching for the Rockies, but by waiting to start his service time Colorado will be able to control Gray’s contract through the 2021 season.

The urgency for adding Gray now compared to in three weeks may have gone away with the news of Jorge De La Rosa’s rehab going fairly smoothly.
