With the 161st selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft the Colorado Avalanche selected Drummondville Voltiguers defenseman Sergei Boikov. After choosing a pair of QMJHL players earlier in the draft and an over-age Russian defenseman in the 4th round, the Avalanche combined the two in round 6, drafting an over-age Russian defenseman from the QMJHL.

Boikov is a 19 year old, left-shooting defenseman from Khabarovsk, Russia who joined Drummondville in the 2nd round of the 2013 CHL import draft. A 6-foot-2 194 pound defenseman, Boikov registered 24 points in 64 games played for Drummondville this season. Boikov also had 64 penalty minutes and finished the season a +11 on a bad Drummondville squad which finished second worst in the QMJHL.

In his first year of draft eligibility Boikov registered 21 points for Drummondville and was ranked 183rd by NHL Central Scouting for the 2014 Entry Draft. The Avalanche didn’t select Boikov then, but must like the defensive growth he’s shown in the past year to spend a 6th round pick now.

Boikov’s career statistics are listed below:
