Texas ties proving worthy for Buffaloes

Those who follow the Colorado Buffaloes understand that historically, recruiting the state of Texas is as important to the success of the football program as anything else. Names like Alfred Williams, Kanavis McGhee, and many more have found their way to Boulder by-way of the Lone Star State.

Prior to hiring Darrin Chiaverini from Texas Tech to coach wide receivers and be co-offensive coordinator, current head coach Mike MacIntyre struggled mightily to recruit Texas. Where many thought someone like Jim Jeffcoat, who was a star with the Dallas Cowboys in his playing days, would have an immediately significant impact…they were underwhelmed.

MacIntyre signed three prospects from Texas in 2013, his transition class, though two of the signees were holdovers from Jon Embree’s staff and their recruiting efforts. In 2014, only two spots on the roster went to Texas products. Then, in the 2015 and 2016 classes combined, MacIntyre signed just three players from Texas.

Now, with Chiaverini on staff and back in his old stomping grounds, the Buffs have four commitments from Texas, with two of them being rated as four-star prospects by Rivals.com.

Chris Miller, a Dallas-area cornerback prospect, committed just this morning and joined the likes of Alex Fontenot, Jaylen Jackson, and Laviska Shenault. But the Buffs aren’t done.

According to Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede.com, Chiaverini and others have been actively recruiting names like Ryder Anderson, who joined Jarret Doege and William Brown at CU’s Under the Lights Camp last week.

Capitalizing on recent momentum in the Lone Star State will be imperative for Colorado moving forward, especially with recent events regarding one of the state’s prominent college programs. If anyone could be trusted to do just that, it would be MacIntyre’s new staff, led by Chiaverini.
