Few people have done as much for the city of Denver and it’s beloved Broncos than Pat Bowlen has. Mr. Bowlen’s record as an owner speaks for itself. In 32 years he’s brought home seven conference titles and three Lombardi trophies among many other accomplishments.

Think of those memories for a second.

Think of The Drive, The Fumble, going back-to-back and reminding us all that those titles were “For John!” Even the high of this last title and John dedicated the trophy right back.

The Broncos have been an integral part of many Colorado families since before Bowlen became the owner in 1984. But there’s no getting around how Bowlen’s commitment to Denver and to the team has led to some of their greatest memories and cemented the Broncos into our collective  culture.

Though few of us want to admit it, Mr. Bowlen still looms large over his beloved franchise, but he’s no longer actively running things like he used to. Sadly, the owner is battling Alzheimer’s, a disease that affects more than 5 million families outside of Pat and Annabel Bowlen.

Since the Broncos owners diagnosis in 2014, the Bowlen family has been a major advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, which will be held this Saturday in Denver. As Mr. Bowlen continues in his battle, he and everybody affected by the disease need our help, and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a great way to start.

“Obviously it’s very important,” said head coach Gary Kubiak about the Walk. “We want to support the Bowlen family and Mr. B. We wish he was here with us on a daily basis, but it’s very important to us that we continue to support it. I know it’s very important to the family. We as a team will definitely do that.”

The Bowlen’s involvement in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Denver has made it a top-30 walk nationwide. That, in addition to Pat’s diagnosis and a commitment to raising funds by starting TEAM SUPER BOWLEN, has brought on a large increase in awareness and support for organizations such as the Walk to End Alzheimer’s since 2014.

It’s important that commitment keeps up.
