According to Connor Joe, “Tony Gwynn is San Diego.” For fans of the Colorado Rockies cult hero, the SoCal city and CoJo are starting to become rather synonymous, too. Joe’s rise to prominence happened quickly in 2021 with the Coors Field faithful immediately connecting with a bright smile and courageous story. The magic was present even before smacking his first…

Justin Michael is joined by the founder of HeatCheckCBB.com, Eli Boettger, and the two discuss his way-too-early projections for the upcoming Mountain West men’s basketball season. Eli explains why San Diego State is good enough to crack the top-15, why Wyoming may not be quite as dangerous as some think and why CSU should still be a dangerous group without David Roddy. Eli also gives some insight into why the additions of Josiah Strong and Patrick Cartier are significant, how he views Roddy as an NBA prospect, why the USC game is intriguing and more! LAS VEGAS — Not enough.  David Roddy, Isaiah Stevens and Chandler Jacobs combined for 52 points on 20-of-32 shooting in the Mountain West Conference semifinals Friday night.  The problem was that outside of that trio, everyone else on the floor for No. 23 Colorado State combined to make a total of two baskets. The Rams also missed half of their...

FORT COLLINS — Colorado State led for 35:19 against San Diego State on Friday night. Halfway through the second half the Rams were even beating the Aztecs by 20. Over the final couple minutes of action, though, SDSU stormed back with a furious comeback and nearly stole a victory at Moby Arena.  With under 15 seconds to play, the Aztecs...

FORT COLLINS — Redemption.  David Roddy had a chance to put his team ahead in the final seconds of regulation of Monday night’s overtime loss against Wyoming. After tying the game at 70 apiece, Roddy missed the second free throw attempt and the Pokes ultimately pulled out the 84-78 win up at Arena Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo. Obviously, blaming Roddy for the Wyoming loss would be absurd, CSU wouldn’t have even been in the game without him. But against San Diego State on Friday night, in front of a sold out Moby Arena crowd, Roddy got his redemption moment.  CSU led by as much as 20 against the Aztecs and trailed for all of six seconds on Friday night. However,…

FORT COLLINS — For the second time this season Colorado State fell to a league opponent in a game where the Rams were never even in it. Bryce Hamilton came into Moby Arena and dropped 45 points Friday night, as UNLV scorched CSU in an 88-74 upset victory.  After falling to the Rebels on a night where the Rams were favored...

DENVER — ”Everybody gets whooped every now and then, so we’ll take it on the chin.” Isaiah Stevens was calm and collected while speaking with the media following Saturday’s 79-49 loss to San Diego State. Despite seeing CSU’s 11 game winning streak come to an end in dramatic fashion, Stevens was the same even keeled guy that we’ve become accustomed to...

DENVER — It was fun while it lasted but No. 20 Colorado State (11-1,1-1) is undefeated no more. The Rams were bullied on the road by San Diego State (10-3, 2-0), ultimately falling 79-49 to the Aztecs at Viejas Arena on Saturday.  It was a brutal game for CSU on the offensive end, as the Rams were completely smothered by...

DENVER — On to the next one.  No. 20 Colorado State (11-0) was originally scheduled to play its first conference road game at Boise State (10-4) on Friday night. However, due to the Broncos being unable to play the matchup and Nevada (7-5) being unable to play their scheduled game at Viejas Arena, the Rams now will play at San Diego State (9-3) on Saturday afternoon instead (2:00 p.m. MT). The game will be televised on CBS, according to the Mountain West, which announced the schedule change on Wednesday evening.  It’s no surprise that Boise State and CSU will not be playing this weekend. Following Tuesday night’s victory over Air Force (8-5), men’s head basketball coach Niko Medved told reporters…

FORT COLLINS, CO. — The call will live on forever. ”Unbelievable! One of the biggest comebacks you will ever see. Down 26, Colorado State comes roaring back on San Diego State’s home floor and wins this game.” The 70-67 victory over San Diego State on Jan. 02 was more than just a comeback win for the Rams. Sure, it was a...

FORT COLLINS, CO. — Colorado State fell to San Diego State 78-65 in the second matchup of the two-game road trip Monday night. While the Rams (6-2, 3-1) were unable to complete the sweep, splitting at one of the toughest venues in the country is nothing to complain about for a team that has no seniors on the roster — especially considering...

FORT COLLINS, CO. — John Tonje felt guilty about missing practice on Friday. The sophomore guard was attending his father’s wedding in Denver — something that had long been planned and confirmed with the team. But after a schedule change resulted in the San Diego State series being moved from December to January, Tonje was left with a predicament.  On one hand, Tonje wanted to prepare for the matchup with his teammates. It’s not every day that your team faces the league frontrunner after all. “He just felt terrible,” head coach Niko Medved explained postgame.  With the ability to attend the important family event and still make the game, though, Medved made it clear he wanted Tonje to know he had the…
