November continues on and so do the Buffs as they navigate their way through their toughest month on the schedule. Colorado will be making the trip to Seattle to take on the 17th-ranked Washington Huskies and the nation’s leading passer in Michael Penix Jr. Penix and the Huskies are coming off of a massive upset win in Eugene over the Oregon Ducks where Penix threw for 408 yards, completed 75.3% of his passes and threw for two touchdowns and one interception. This week will be the third week in a row that Colorado will face off against one of the premier quarterbacks in the country and interim head coach Mike Sanford spoke about the challenges Penix and the Huskies present.…

After the Buffs lost their best offensive player in Jordyn Tyson, Colorado faces a double whammy as they are on a short week and have to travel to Los Angeles to take on USC. Colorado is entering Friday night’s matchup as 34-point underdogs and even after last week’s blowout against Oregon, interim head coach Mike Sanford is doing well to block outside noise. “Nobody’s going to give us a chance but we’re going to go in there with belief,” Sanford said. “That’s what this week’s preparations have been about.” While it may seem like the Buffs are walking into a buzzsaw, going back to southern California is a homecoming of sorts for many players on Colorado’s roster. One of those…

The leaves are turning, the World Series is on TV and it’s getting colder. It must be November. For the Colorado Buffaloes, November brings on four opportunities for the Buffs to prove themselves against the PAC-12’s best. The Buffs’ focus is on Oregon this weekend but will face USC, Washington and Utah in that order this month. In last week’s homecoming game against Arizona State, Colorado showed a willingness to fight when they were down by 22 points late in the fourth quarter. They’re going to need all of that fight and then some with the number eight team in the country coming to Folsom Field this Saturday in the Oregon Ducks. The Buffs are 31.5-point underdogs heading into Saturday’s…

At Tuesday’s weekly press conference, Colorado interim head coach Mike Sanford’s main talking points weren’t as much about Arizona State or Oregon but rather name, image and likeness (NIL). Last Friday, the Buffs4Life Foundation alongside the University of Colorado announced the Buffs4Life NIL Collective. Buffs4Life was created to aid former Colorado student-athletes and provide a community that could provide those former student-athletes with financial assistance and mental health resources. Now that effort has been expanded to provide assistance to current CU student-athletes. “I believe that what Buffs4Life and the collective put forth at the end of last week is a game-changing narrative for our program,” Sanford said. Colorado has lagged behind the rest of the country in terms of adjusting…

In his final year of eligibility, Tommy Brown made the decision to join Colorado football as a graduate transfer. The former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman was a big acquisition for the Buffs and has solidified their right guard position this season. While the Buffs’ may not be winning often on the field, Brown is absolutely winning off of it. In March, Brown made his modeling debut with Boulder-based underwear company Shinesty. That was only the start of their partnership. On Friday, Shinesty announced that they have made Brown the first college football player to become a professional underwear supermodel. In a press release about Brown’s NIL deal, Shinesty’s Creative Director Ben Lauderdale stated why Shinesty chose Brown. “Why pick…

The injuries at running back and quarterback have placed the Buffs into a tough predicament. Offensively, Colorado has struggled in every game this season but after Owen McCown’s injury against Cal, J.T. Shrout played and led well in relief of McCown. Shrout struggled last weekend against Oregon State who was the latest opponent to get out in front of the Buffs early and put a stranglehold on Colorado. It’s unclear who will start at quarterback for both the Sun Devils and the Buffs this week in a matchup of two teams who could be playing for their last win of the season. Colorado’s interim offensive coordinator, Clay Patterson spoke about the offense and the troubles they’ve had throughout the season…

Coming off of the momentum generated by interim head coach Mike Sanford’s energy and the Buffs’ first win of the season against Cal, Colorado fell flat last Saturday against Oregon State. It was a painful 42-9 loss that was a reminder of the first five games of the season under Karl Dorrell’s lead. Last week’s loss was a tough pill...

Through the first five games of 2022, the Buffs had the worse defense in the CFB. Defensive coordinator Chris Wilson was let go alongside Karl Dorrell and the keys to the defense were handed over to interim defensive coordinator Gerald Chatman. Chatman had his work cut out for him over the bye week to make the defense serviceable and he...

Brendon Lewis suited up as a Colorado Buffalo for the final time on Saturday. After sliding down to third on the quarterback depth chart, Lewis made the decision to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday. Colorado’s bye week was anything but quiet after the decision to fire Karl Dorrell and Chris Wilson was announced hours after the Buffs were beaten by Arizona 43-20. As interim head coach Mike Sanford begins his first game week leading the Buffs, changes that have been made over the bye week are becoming routine as Sanford leaves his imprint on...

“The theme of the day was energy.” Colorado interim head coach Mike Sanford said as he addressed the media in his first press conference as the leader of CU football. No one took Tuesday’s theme more seriously than Sanford himself. Buffs’ media were allowed to watch practice on Tuesday for the first time this year during a brief 20-minute window...

The calendar just turned over to October but Rick George and CU saw enough through the Buffs’ first five games of the season, it was time to fire Karl Dorrell. The last time George was in this situation, it was an absolute scramble to replace Mel Tucker as the current Michigan State head coach left Colorado in the middle of February 2020. Now, George has the chance to let the 2022 football season play out and pick Colorado football’s 28th head football coach from a long list of potential candidates. While it may be too early in the season to know exactly who is in play for head coaching positions in this year’s coaching carousel, here are 26 coaches that…

After Colorado fired head coach Karl Dorrell on Sunday afternoon, two of CU’s most prominent university figures, chancellor Philip DiStefano and athletic director Rick George, introduced Mike Sanford as the Buffs’ interim head coach.  As the book was closed on the Karl Dorrell era at CU, George, DiStefano and Sanford emphasized their admiration, respect and the integrity that Dorrell possesses....

After the 2021 season, Colorado had questions at nearly every position but the front seven. Nate Landman was moving on to the NFL but Quinn Perry, Terrance Lang, Robert Barnes, Guy Thomas, Jalen Sami and Na’Im Rodman were returning. Then in late April, Josh Chandler-Semedo announced that he would be joining the Buffs via the transfer portal. It seemed like Colorado’s front seven would be the unquestioned best unit for CU again this year. Then the games started. Through four games, Colorado has the worst rushing defense in the country and it’s not even close. To put in perspective how bad the Buffs run defense has been, UCLA rushed for 249 yards on Colorado’s defense last week, yet CU’s season…

Owen McCown and Jordyn Tyson are leading a charge of young Buffs who will be seeing increased playing time in the near future. In Saturday’s game against UCLA, Colorado started quarterback Owen McCown, wide receiver Chase Sowell and left guard Van Wells. That was the first time the Buffs started three true freshmen on offense in the same game since...

Head coach Karl Dorrell and Colorado made the decision to start true freshman Owen McCown last week and while the final score was not much different than the last three weeks, it appears that Colorado has a quarterback. McCown’s performance last Saturday against UCLA was what coach Dorrell called, “our best passing production in two years.” Against the Bruins, McCown...

Colorado is entering their third straight game of being at least 21-point underdogs this weekend when UCLA rolls into Folsom. UCLA barely escaped against South Alabama at home last week which suggests that this team is capable of playing down to their competition. The Buffs have yet to find any type of offensive momentum this season and it looks like...
