Battey, a four-star according to Scout and ESPN, and a three-star as rated by Rivals, commitment marks Boyle’s 2017 class as his best.
He had offers from Boston College, DePaul, Drexel, Loyal Marymount, Missouri, Purdue, Miami, TCU and others.
ESPN’s scouting report of Battey reads:
Strengths:
Battey is a unique prospect for the next level due to his size and skill set. He is a big-bodied 4-man with ball skills and the strength to finish in the paint. He can take defenders off the bounce and finish through contact or drop off the assist. The face-up 4-man has a terrific 1st step, excellent ball skills, and his passing prowess demonstrated the savvy he possesses for this game. He can post up on the low block and finish through contact as well.Weaknesses:
Battey will need to keep his frame in check to utilize his unique combination of size and skill. In addition, developing a consistent face-up jump shot will enhance his ability to use his physical ability to get around defenders and create plays.Bottom Line:
Battey is one of the more interesting prospects on the west coast for his class. His unique blend of talents will be intriguing to watch over the next few seasons.
Battey, Bey and Schwartz join transfer Namon Wright as Colorado hoopsters expected to debut in 2017-18. With the addition of Battey the Buffs are as of now out of scholarships to give for 2017-18.
