Tad Boyle in the hunt for Mizzou transfer

Colorado fans have been wondering where men’s basketball head coach Tad Boyle would be going with the final open scholarship he has in his pocket. Yesterday’s news of the Buffs pursuing Mizzou transfer Namon Wright certainly helped answer the question.

First reported by Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede.com, Boyle and his staff actually have Wright on campus right now and are competing with Oregon and UNLV for the former four-star recruit’s services.

Wright had two inconsistent seasons with a Mizzou program going through serious turmoil upon joining the SEC and trying to find their way after two coaches left for lateral (or worse) coaching positions. As a sophomore, he scored 9.6 points per game, while pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game as well.

In speaking with BSNBuffs sources within the program, one thing is clear: The staff firmly believes that they can develop him more than he was at Mizzou. The coaches see Wright as the perfect replacement for departing seniors Derrick White, Josh Fortune, and Xavier Johnson after a redshirt year. Part of that development, of course, would be the chance to compete against those three every day in practice.

Of course, if it feels like Wright’s frame, size, and athleticism are familiar, that’s no accident.

Since arriving in Boulder, Boyle and his staff have had success with bigger, versatile guards like Wright. From Alec Burks and Cory Higgins to Carlon Brown and Spencer Dinwiddie, the lineage is strong in the Black and Gold. The only question is, will Wright pick the Buffs?
