Super Bowl 50 Champion Todd Davis is re-joining the Denver Broncos. This time as a coach.
That sadly means Todd is leaving DNVR after spending nearly two years on the DNVR Broncos Podcast. Todd’s officially title with the Broncos will be defensive quality control coach.
“I just finalized. I’m really excited about it,” Todd told DNVR in an emotional farewell. “It’s sad to leave DNVR. It’s been so great here. Zac, Henry, everybody here at DNVR, as well as the fans. Hope you follow me over to my new job and give me some support there. That would be awesome. It is bittersweet because it’s been amazing to be here… It’s sad to leave for sure.”
Todd’s connections to the Broncos’ coaching staff start all the way at the top and trickle down.
Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints signed Todd as a undrafted free agent in 2014 out of Sacramento State. Payton and the Saints kept him in the organization until the Broncos poached him off their practice squad midway through his rookie season.
No. 51 in Orange & Blue went on to be a special teams captain during Super Bowl 50, became a four-year starter at inside linebacker in Denver, signed a second contract with the organization and lead the team in tackles three different seasons.
Todd was a team captain and starter during Vance Joseph’s two years as the Broncos’ head coach. Joseph, of course, is now Denver’s defensive coordinator.
After the Broncos surprisingly released him just before the 2020 season, Todd signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings’ assistant general manager at the time? Now current Broncos general manager George Paton.
Joining the Broncos’ coaching staff reunites Todd with Payton, Paton and Joseph. Additionally, this past season, Todd was a training camp coaching intern for the Broncos, spending nearly a month with the organization he is now re-joining.
“I’m excited for the season. The Broncos are going to be phenomenal,” Todd said with a big smile. “I’m happy I get to be a part of it. Great coaching staff. Great head coach. Great organization. Great ownership. There’s no better place for me to start my coaching career than here in Denver where I played with this coaching staff. I’m honored to be a part of the team. I’m ready to get started.”
Todd’s desire to be a coach in the NFL has grown over the last few years.
“I didn’t want to go into coaching originally because I knew the time constraints that it puts on the coaches,” Todd revealed. “After doing some combine prep for a couple of years, doing some coaching with my sons, doing some coaching up at CU, coaching with the Broncos, that’s when I realized that’s what I want to do and how I want to give back to the younger players.”
While we will miss him at DNVR, we are thrilled for him, will be cheering him on and will be watching him rise up the coaching ranks.
Congratulations to our friend.
