Last season was a big one for Chris Harris Jr. He made his first Pro Bowl, his first All-Pro team and was recognized among the very best at his position in the entire NFL. Oh, and the 42 million dollar deal wasn’t too bad either.

This season, Harris is in unfamiliar territory. He is no longer the dark horse. Everyone knows who he is and many argue that he may be the best cornerback in the entire NFL. After all, the last time he gave up a touchdown pass was in 2013.

With the fame, comes respect and with respect comes admiration. That admiration can be found at it’s highest level in Bixby, Oklahoma, where Chris Harris Jr. grew up. Chris not only grew up there but has been a shining member of the community as well.

On Thursday night, during Bixby’s annual Green Corn Festival, the Broncos cornerback was given one of the cities highest honors by it’s mayor. On Riverview Road between 151st Street and 161st Street South in Bixby, you will now find Chris Harris Jr. Road.

I had the opportunity to chat with Harris on Friday and he told me, “This is such a big honor to be recognized by my hometown.” He added, “I hope kids see that I came from that same small town and it motivates them to become great.”

The undrafted kid from Kansas has came a long way and something tells me that his story isn’t quite over yet.
