During Bears rookie mini-camp on Friday, Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase reportedly told Chicago reporter Nate Atkins that Matt Forte’s durability adds an element to his power run game, whereas CJ Anderson “got a little chubby” at times. To put it lightly, I was very surprised.

This is the guy that single-handedly resurrected a running game that Adam Gase was responsible for. A running game that failed on all levels before Gase inserted CJ Anderson into the line-up. Many Broncos players that I talked to over the course of the year told me that they were surprised that CJ was never inserted into the line-up earlier because he was “that good” in practice. Gase wasn’t apparently much of a talent evaluator either.
In the final six weeks of the NFL season, CJ Anderson led the NFL in rushing yards behind an offensive line that Adam Gase had mangled, misconfigured, and under-coached. To make a long story short, CJ Anderson saved his tuckus.
But it is a quote like this that shows us why Gase is not a head coach yet. This is a guy that interviewed for six HC positions during his botched playoff run, didn’t get any of those jobs, and then had to crawl back to John Fox after not even being offered a coordinator job by any of the 31 other NFL franchises.
Why a guy who is known for riding Peyton Manning’s coat tails would openly slam the only positive thing that he can put his name on is beyond me but it is the NFL and boys will be boys.
Stay classy Adam Gase.
