FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The dominoes are falling for Colorado State football.
After finding both his offensive and defensive coordinators last week, multiple sources confirmed to DNVR Rams on Thursday that Antoine Smith will be the new defensive line coach and Scott McLafferty will be the head strength and conditioning coach. Here’s everything that we know so far.
There were some rumblings that former d-line coach Keith Gilmore may be retained after assisting Addazio with the recruiting process and locking down a couple of crucial commits out of Texas. In the end, though, it seems that Addazio opted to continue the pattern of hiring guys he is familiar with.
Smith recently worked at Boston College from 2017-19. After starting as a director of football initiatives in his first season, Smith coached defensive tackles over the last two years.
Prior to his three years with the Eagles, Smith was the defensive line coach at the following schools: James Madison (2014-15), Holy Cross (2011-13), Miami OH (2009-10), Youngstown State (2006-08) and Lafayette (2004-05).
McLafferty was named Boston College’s head strength and conditioning coach in 2019 after working as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Texas for two seasons (2017-18). Before working in Austin, TX., McLafferty was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Boston College from 2012-16.
With the additions of Smith and McLafferty, there are now at least three former Boston College coaches expected to be on Addazio’s staff. According to Football Scoop, running backs coach Brian White is also joining the team out west.
As of right now, CSU football has not announced any of Addazio’s staff hires but these are a few of the coaches that are expected to be leading the Rams in 2020. (If Ram fans are looking for last season’s wide receivers coach, Joe Cox, the multi-year CSU assistant has re-joined Mike Bobo on South Carolina’s staff.)
