Monday, BSN Denver told you that an Avalanche outdoor game at Air Force Academy would happen “sooner rather than later.” Tuesday, BSN Denver has the actual date for the next outdoor game at the AFA:

That date, sources tell BSN, is: Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.

The Avs are tentatively scheduled to play on that day in an NHL Stadium Series game at Falcon Stadium on the Air Force Academy grounds. That date is unlikely to change, although weather or some other unforeseen circumstance could theoretically change it.

What is still to be determined: the Avs’ opponent that day. Right now, it’s anybody’s guess as to what team will face off against the Avs in what will be the second outdoor NHL game in Colorado since 2016.

That won’t be the only hockey to be played that weekend at Falcon Stadium. Sources also tell BSN Denver that on Sunday, Feb. 16, the Air Force Academy hockey team will face Colorado College.

The NHL last season played an outdoor game between Washington and Toronto at the Naval Academy in Maryland, and pledged to host games at the other military academies. Air Force, which has really come on as a college hockey power under coach Frank Serratore, plays to often sold-out crowds at the AFA Cadet Fieldhouse.

The NHL has yet to officially announce the game at Falcon Stadium, but on Monday, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told BSN Denver that the game would happen “sooner rather than later.”

Now, fans can start making plans for that February weekend a little more than a year from now.
