DENVER — Nine tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and a pass defensed in three preseason games. Think defensive end Shelby Harris has done enough to make the Denver Broncos?
“That’s not for me to say, that’s really not for me to say,” Harris told BSN Denver with a smile following Saturday’s game.
With a slew of players banged up on that defensive line, does that give him an even better chance of making the team?
“That’s not really for me to look at,” he said with that same smile.
Allow Harris’ teammates to do the talking.
“He’s been great. Shelby has been great,” said Von Miller. “Shelby is definitely going to help us. Especially in a spot where we’re light right now. It’s refreshing to get some great play out of him.”
“He’s killin’ it, he’s really killin’ it,” added linebacker Todd Davis. “Even last week. I mean, he had the forced fumble to end the game. He picked up the fumbles last week. He’s getting sacks this week. I’m excited for him this year… He’s going to be a great addition to this defense.”

“Definitely going to help us.”
“Going to be a great addition to this defense.”
Folks, those sure don’t sound like words about a guy who might not make the 53-man roster. It sure sounds like Harris’ defensive teammates fully expect him to be out there with them come Sept. 11.
“In my opinion, I feel like until they tell me not to, I’m just going to keep going out there and playing ball, man,” Harris explained of that notion. “Those decisions aren’t up to me.”
Those decisions, in large part, are up to head coach Vance Joseph, who also talked about Harris’ seven-tackle, three-sack performance on the night.
“Shelby’s been solid from OTAs, to training camp and the last three games, he’s played pretty well,” Joseph explained. “He had two turnovers last week in San Fran and two sacks tonight. He is an ascending player right now.”
Every year it seems there is a player who, out of nowhere, makes a name for himself and makes the team. Shelby Harris is 2017’s Dekoda Watson.
“You see it in practice,” Davis explained. “You see his hustle, his determination in practice so when he comes out here and makes these plays on the field you kind of expect it. You kind of see what he’s been able to do. Like I said, I’m excited for him this year.”
Shelby Harris, welcome to the 53.
