Colorado Avalanche GM Joe Sakic met with the media before puck drop of the season finale against the the Anaheim Ducks. Among the key things Sakic said, he emphatically stated Patrick Roy will return as Head Coach in 2016-17 after his team crashed and burned down the stretch in the midst of a playoff push.
Sakic began by talking about how his team left a number of points on the table, which proved to be the team’s fatal flaw down the stretch as they couldn’t finish games at the end of the season.
There was plenty of talk about the core of the team and the need for improvement from the top of the organization to the bottom.
Roy stated there will be no venturing into free agency and signing older players to long-term deals, a departure from his previous years in which Jarome Iginla, Brad Stuart, and Francois Beauchemin were all signed to multi-year deals despite being 35 or older.
