Mike Bobo will be without one of his three go-to running backs in the Idaho Potato Bowl. Freshman Marvin Kinsey announced via Twitter that he will miss the remainder of the 2016 season with a torn ACL.
The 6-1, 190-pound back from Atlanta came to Colorado State after receiving offers from Georgia Southern, Utah State and Tulane. Though the freshman spent much of his time behind veterans Izzy Matthews and Dalyn Dawkins, Kinsey flashed his potential throughout the 2016 campaign.
Kinsey played in all 12 games, carrying the ball 93 times for 566 yards and seven touchdowns. His rushing average of 5.9 yards per carry led the running back trio. As a group, Kinsey, Dawkins and Matthews combined for 2,052 yards on the ground and 22 touchdowns.
The Georgia native had a number of solid performances this season.
Against Northern Colorado, Kinsey rushed for 97 yards on 18 carries and scored his first career touchdown. Five games later, he notched his first career two-touchdown game as he totaled 68 yards on just 10 carries opposite the UNLV defense.
Kinsey’s output against New Mexico remains CSU’s best performance by a running back in 2016. Though Dawkins and Matthews also went over the 100-yard mark, Kinsey outgained them both on his way to a line of 10 carries for 127 yards and a score in a 49-31 victory over the Lobos.
