Flesch-Law-Recap-

Denver – The purple pinstripes proved superior to the navy pinstripes as the Colorado Rockies topped the New York Yankees 13-10. In what was the most highly anticipated night game of the Rockies home slate, the club did not disappoint. Nailing back-to-back jacks in the fourth and getting a throwback performance from franchise great Jorge De La Rosa.

Though a nasty injury to Gerardo Parra clouded the evening, not much else was gloomy though the seventh for the Rockies as each position group did its job besides one small hiccup in the sixth. That was until the eighth when the Rockies almost let the game, and a nine-run lead get away from them.

After two up-and-down innings from De La Rosa, the Rockies got a run in the second after when a leadoff double by Carlos Gonzalez set the frame. Mark Reynolds brought him home with a double himself giving the home nine a 1-0 lead.

The Rockies got back at in the fourth starting once again with a Gonzalez lead off knock, Trevor Story, and Ryan Raburn followed with back to back home runs putting the home team on top 4-0. Again in the fifth the Rockies gave starter Nathan Eovaldi fits as they knocked him out of the game and tacked two more runs. Started by a Blackmon single then some small ball with DJ LeMahieu to knock him in Nolan Arenado cleaned up with a double giving the club their first six-run lead of the night.

Back came the Yankees briefly as they bounced three across in the sixth by way of a Didi Gregorius three-run blast. But back went the Rockies in the sixth with some short shotted bloops that plated three. That put the home team up six again. Again Colorado went off in the seventh rallying behind a single, double and triple bringing three home and giving them a nine-run lead.

But it wouldn’t be a done deal as Justin Miller struggled in the eighth surrendering a rally to New York and a big one at that. The Yankees taxed Miller for five runs on five hits consisting of five straight singles. Then Miguel Castro came along and let up two more unearned runs recodring just an out. Finally, Jason Motte got the eight’s final out. The Bronx Bombers plated seven by the end of the inning cutting the Rockies lead to 12-10.

Then Gonzalez came through again with a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the eight which put the Rockies up 13-10 and gave Carlos Estevez enough of lead to finally put the Yankees to bed.
