For the second consecutive Spring Training meeting, the Colorado Rockies got whomped by the Los Angeles Dodgers, this time by a score of 7-1.

The results were undoubtedly ugly for the boys in purple but for reasons completely unrelated to where these two teams are at right now, that was to be expected.

Turning Point – When the lineups came out

This one was pretty much over before it began. The Dodgers ran out a lineup of mostly MLB regulars and their prized offseason acquisition in David Price who was looking to rebound from a shaky first appearance for his new club.

The Rockies rolled out a guy who has pitched four innings of Spring Training baseball in the last three years and a lineup featuring multiple prospects who aren’t even among their own Top 30.

The end result was never really in doubt but the Dodgers batting around on Ubaldo Jimenez in the first inning, as he failed to find any kind of consistency with his command, put the game away early.

Player of the Game – David Price

Credit where it is due, Price got help on a couple of backward Ks but he was truly dominant, allowing just one baserunner on a walk of Nolan Arenado and striking out seven in three innings.

Runner Up – Nolan Arenado

Arenado drew a four-pitch walk against the in-rhythm Price and got the Rockies first hit and run in the game with a solo home run in the sixth. He leads the team this Spring with four yonkers.

• With 1.1 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, and a hit batsmen, Ubaldo Jimenez raised his Spring ERA to 8.44.
• Jesus Tinoco picked up for Jimenez and threw 1.2 innings, giving up a hit and a walk but nothing else. He hasn’t given up a run yet.
•  Tim Collins looked sharp in a clean inning of work. Spring ERA at 5.06
• Jake McGee walked a batter and gave up a hit but showed off some solid strikeout stuff, fanning two in his second straight outing. His Spring ERA is still at 6.00.
• After getting just obliterated in his first appearance in years, Daniel Bard looked much better, striking out two without allowing a baserunner.
• Yency Almonte likewise settled down his Spring a bit with an inning where he struck out one and gave up a single.
• The Rockies recorded just two hits in the game, the Arenado home run and a single from Elias Diaz who is hitting .474.

Final Thought

I hope nobody paid $60 for a lawn ticket to watch this.
