After an offseason of wondering whether or not the Colorado Rockies would play the 2018 season without one of the faces of their franchise, it is being reported by Jon Heyman of Fanrag Sports that they are close to reaching a deal with Carlos Gonzalez, likely for just one year. And in the land of mountains, there was much rejoicing.

CarGo struggled through the first four months of the 2017 campaign but put up a whopping 1.250 OPS in September/October, helping his club hang on to the final Wild Card spot.

Gonzalez has spent nine years with the Rockies and tearfully told us after the loss in the postseason appearance that this is where is heart is. Despite his struggles at the plate, he never became a cancer in the clubhouse and Nolan Arenado had even expressed a desire to see him return.

There are plenty of reasons for caution when it comes to this move. Will Gonzalez be promised a starting spot over a potentially higher-ceiling younger player, creating a blockade similar to that of a year ago? Will he return to form or continue to fade? Would he be willing to accept a lesser role?

Whatever the answers to these questions, there can be no doubt that this move would be widely embraced by the fans. Gonzalez has been a staple of the franchise and has been inarguably one of its very best players.
