I find it interesting that Katie said Nolan is a leader in the Cardinals clubhouse. I thought he said he didn’t want to be a leader. ?

That’s an interesting note. My thoughts…
There are different ways of being a leader and different groups that need to be led. The Cardinals don’t have an incredibly young or inexperienced group. Plus, as a team in contention (perpetually) everyone is pulling from the same side of the rope. In contrast, the Rockies have one of the most inexperienced clubs in MLB. Throw in the fact that the Cardinals have numerous former All-Stars and future Hall of Famers (or one HOFer and many Hall of Very Goods) and you begin to see that Arenado doesn’t need to quite as much to “lead” that team. He’s one of 5 or 6 that bears the weight, whereas it would have been mostly just him, Story and Blackmon doing so in Colorado. (And maybe Story would have only contributed for this season before leaving in free agency, putting most of it on Arenado and Blackmon’s backs.)

We all assumed this team would struggle to win games, but I cannot quite find a way to explain the terrifically awful start on the road this season as compared to a winning record at home. Why can we still not figure out how to make the transition back from Coors to hitting on the road? The starters’ abysmal ERA away from “hitter-friendly” Coors has to be the scariest part of this trend, outside of the hitting, fielding, and bullpen woes.
