3 and Outstanding
As I sit here and watch this wildcard game I want to share with you my feelings. It’s 1-1 going into the bottom of the 9th and I don’t know how it’s going to end.
I imagine I am like many Colorado natives. Growing up the Rockies did not exist. We had the Colorado Grizzlies baseball team, but that was it. No MLB team. The only locally televised MLB baseball I got to see on a consistent basis was WGN. The Cubs. As a child, I grew up as a Cubs fan. They were my adopted team and despite their inability to win I always had a fondness for them.
The Rockies became a franchise in 1991 while I was in high school. I, of course, became a fan of the Rockies as my home team, but I am not a fairweather fan, so I never lost my love for the Cubs. They are my childhood team. You can imagine my mixed feelings watching the two teams I love go head to head. Of course, I realize only one team can win, but it breaks my heart either way.
As we enter the 10th inning in a crazy good defensive game I am thinking about all the good memories I have from both of these teams over the years. How do you choose between them? Some say you cannot support 2 teams. I don’t know if that’s true. I guess it’s poetic that the game has been split evenly into extra innings. I don’t think I’ve experienced a game that has wrecked me as much as this game has. How great is this sport?
