On this episode of the BSN Rockies Podcast, Drew Creasman wraps up a disappointing homestand for the Colorado Rockies, including an in-depth look at the Freddy Peralta game and how to tell the difference between a poor offensive performance and a great pitching performance. Then, we preview the road trip and talk about the importance of winning games against NL West opponents, none of whom looked primed to run away with the division.

Regarding the Dahl controversy: I understand the frustration of not seeing him in the lineup every game, and I even feel that myself when he doesn’t start, just because I love seeing him play. However, there are a few things (on top of that K% you wrote about), that are worth noting before we rush to blame Bud Black of being incompetent or veteran-lover.
1. Dahl’s struggles against lefties have been real. Even after last night’s homer, his slash line against lefties is .167/.167/.333. That’s Ian Desmond territory. So if we’re getting mad about Desmond starting every day, we shouldn’t be mad about Dahl sitting against a lefty (especially Luchessi who’s been just brilliant both times against the Rockies). Granted, if we want Dahl to be a part of the future, he HAS to be able to hit against LHP, and has to start facing them at some point. But again, if we’re mad about Black not constructing the most productive lineup, we shouldn’t be mad at this particular decision.
2. According to Baseball Savant, Dahl has a below-average expected wOBA of .319 (taking into account launch angle and exit velocity of every individual batted ball), as opposed to his actual wOBA of .391 (well above average). This means he’s had a healthy amount of good luck on batted balls, which I’m sure the Rockies are well aware of.
Again, I love Dahl, and believe he’s a greatly needed offensive boost for this team, but it’s not like there’s no evidence that backs up sitting him every now and then, especially when there’s a lefty starting pitcher on the mound.

Hey Drew, what’s the story with Riley Pint’s forearm tightness from like 3-4 weeks ago? Haven’t seen any news since the original report when he was pulled from the first inning of that start. Should we be worried about tommy john?

The Rox are notoriously tight-lipped about minors guys, and I don’t know if Drew has any sources down there, but technically he’s still on the disabled list with forearm tightness, so if they’re thinking/doing TJ, it isn’t anywhere official yet.

Alright after today’s one hit wonder, let’s say Bridich finally decides to trade away a package of prospects for a Votto or Abreu. Any chance he could include Desmond and his contract to a rebuilding team (i.e. Jose Reyes in the Tulo deal?)
