Trade-deadline time is always fun as a fan to speculate about favorite players out there that could help your team…however, basically every story I’ve read out there about the Rockies seems totally absurd. For example, on MLB.com this morning, Richard Justice suggests two slugging lefty outfielders, both with poor defense (Choo and Dickerson) as possible fits for the Rockies. https://www.mlb.com/news/trade-deadline-more-than-big-names/c-285080564
Drew, I know you’ve talked about the difficulty of national outlets having to do this shallow league-wide analysis and missing the nuances of each individual team like the Rockies focus on defense/run prevention this year. But, adding another lefty outfield bat to the already-crowded group seems like a pretty obvious bad fit here, even if you ignore the defense aspect. Where does this stuff come from? Do you think, nationally, everyone still thinks of the Rockies as the ’90s Blake Street Bombers who can only win with power guys that can slug and hit a bunch of dingers?
And maybe a more difficult follow-up question: if the above is true, how long will it take this young group of pitchers to change the perception about playing baseball in Denver? Or is it even possible?
