Ok, so… Update on the Dahl xwOBA issue.
Since I wrote that comment (May 14th), his luck on balls in play turned on him badly. He’s had a (still below average) xwOBA of .284, which is not great, but not nearly as horrible as his actual wOBA of .049.
So now, his xwOBA for the season (.311), perfectly matches his actual wOBA of .310, which again, is still below league average. As you can see, it didn’t take long for luck to even out. Now it’s up to Dahl to get to the production level we now he’s capable of.
An interesting tidbit that you might appreciate (and maybe you can use in your endless battle against the world on the Ian Desmond subject): on that same time span (since May 14th), Desmond has the highest xwOBA on the team with an impressive .399, while his actual wOBA has been a less stellar, but still above average at .353.
Good job on the predictions so far, hope you’re right on the Freeland game tonight. Keep it up.
