On this episode of the BSN Rockies Podcast, Drew Creasman dives deep into another painful loss for the Colorado Rockies in St. Louis. Is this just more normal Wade Davis or should the Rockies consider changing the roles around and allowing Adam Ottavino to take a stab at closing? Plus, more talk about the catcher situation after a rough day for Tony Wolters and more reminders that this starting pitching staff is really, really good.

I would be interested in the analysis of Davis’s 1-2-3 innings vs traffic. I suspect it’s far more of the latter. In watching Davis compared to 2014-2015 with that Royals his split doesn’t have the same bite and his control is far worse. Impact of the forearm issues last year? I thought him an upgrade to Holland, but was surprised by the 3-year deal. I think he needs to work through things with some slightly lower stres settings.
The game changed when Wolters did one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen. Sensa could have and should have gone 7. Had he, then you can mix and match the final 2 innings. But that extended the inning and wrapped things up for him. The game shifts on small moves, with hitters facing Davis who wouldn’t have otherwise. Bad miscue. Wolters can’t afford mental mistakes defensively because he doesn’t provide offense and it undoes his good game calling. Shake it off 3-bags…and let’s sweep the Brewers.
