I will always appreciate Story. He gave his all pretty much every night. Pure respect.

The Rox could certainly match any offer made to him. Yes, Rodgers is finally proving he has star potential. But he is not a SS.

How close are the Rox to contention? The advance in their young bullpen arms is very promising. Do they have some hitters proving their worth? Maybe? Would another strong hitter (where to put them) be enough? No idea. I would love Story to come back but he would need to know that he won’t be playing meaningless games in September. And that, may be something he won’t believe.

Thanks for the response. Keep ’em coming.

I agree about Rodgers and that bringing back Story would be helpful in 2022, if not a band-aid for the future.

As for contention, I think they may be several years from being a true contender. I feel it could be another 4-5 years until they bring the organization to spot like the one they had in 2017-2019 when they went to postseason in consecutive years and had an opportunity entering the season for a third.
After the immense success of the rotation this year – and the return of at least 4 of the 5 – Colorado could have one of those surprise seasons where they are contending for a Wild Card before 2025, but I don’t think we’ll see the next true core of the team develop until further down the road. (This offseason could allow them to be a bit more relevant, but with the lack of success they’ve had in free agency as of late, I’d have to bet against that happening.)

I’ve heard mixed reports of them adding some veterans to the roster on significant contracts. Nick Castellanos may be tops on their list, but we have a long way to go until anything definitive happens.
