Rockies take another tough one-run loss

For the third game in a row, the Colorado Rockies suffered a one-run loss in a game they could have won.

Antonio Senzatela pitched a good game, giving up just a couple of runs, but it turned out that was enough as the Rockies just could not get the big hit at the right.

The Rockies actually outhit the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6 it only managed to push one run across the plate.

A Bryce Harper solo home run in the first against Senzatela gave the Phils an early lead. But it was a wild pitch in the third that allowed a run after a walk and a single that ended up being the decisive play in the game.

The biggest opportunity for Colorado to take the game was also their biggest missed chance.

Tony Wolters began the seventh with a triple that was nearly ruled a hom run but was also played easily on a double from a pinch-hitting Ryan McMahon. That turned out to be the only RBI of the game for the Rox.

McMahon was moved to third on a grounder to the right side from Charlie Blackmon. But Trevor Story pulled a hard grounder to third and McMahon was off on contact and gunned down at home plate.

Still, the Rockies managed to load the bases after a single from David Dahl and a walk by Nolan Arenado. But Daniel Murphy ground out to short, ending the Rockies inning and biggest threat.

This was a hard game to place in the narrative of the Rockies season.

The loss means a series loss and no chance for the club to get back to .500 and this set and yet they’ve been right in every single game on this road trip, maintain a solid road record and look capable of beating just about anyone… even when they don’t.
