Rockies reach one-year deals with Charlie Blackmon, Tyler Chatwood

The Colorado Rockies, via Twitter, have announced the club has signed both Charlie Blackmon and Tyler Chatwood to one-year deals, avoiding arbitration. Keep in mind this concludes the arbitration contracts for the 2017 season.

After being subject to trade rumors this offseason, the club inked their power-hitting leadoff man, Blackmon, to a one-year, $7.3 million deal. Blackmon continues to get better year after year as he enters his seventh season in the Majors, all with the Rockies.

Blackmon, 30, collected a Silver Slugger this past season slashing at a line of .324/.381/.552 with 35 doubles, five triples, 29 home runs, and 82 RBI.

Chatwood, 27, also inked a one-year, $4.4 million deal with Colorado, making a career-high 27 starts this past season. Health has always been an issue with Chatwood, especially after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July 2014.

Chatwood also recorded a career-high 158.0 innings pitched, collecting a 12-9 record with an ERA of 3.87. Chatwood struck out 117 batters over that span, notching a WHIP of 1.37 and a FIP of 4.32.

He was a curious case in 2016 despite the solid numbers. Chatwood has pretty much faired well at Coors Field his entire career up until this past season, posting a 4-8 record in 14 starts with an ERA of 6.12. As for away games, he went 8-1 with a 1.69 ERA — best in the Majors (min. 80 IP).
