Game Rundown

The Rockies suffered a tough loss against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night, falling 4-3. Don’t let the final score fool you, this game was never really close. If not for a ninth inning two-run shot from Mark Reynolds, the Rockies would have ended up with one run on four hits.

Jorge De La Rosa endured possibly his worst start of the year, allowing four runs on six hits and was pulled after only two innings pitched. He did strike out the side to start the game and had five strikeouts in his short stint, but the Reds took advantage of his mistakes and he had his shortest outing of the season.

In the second inning, the Reds stole a team-record five bases on the way to scoring their four runs and ousting De La Rosa from the game. De La Rosa looked to be tipping his pitches and the Reds took advantage, stealing the most bases in one inning in team history, not something he and the Rockies want to see continue. He surely will be hoping changes can be made so that this does not happen again.

The Rockies offense was stagnant apart from back to back doubles by Mark Reynolds and Ben Paulson in the 2nd and the 9th inning home run by Reynolds.

Carlos Gonzalez, Nolan Arenado and Gerardo Parra went a combined 1-12.

Mark Reynolds had a strong game, going 2-3 with a double and two RBI, as well as several really nice defensive plays, including one where he did splits that would rival the best — OK maybe the worst — gymnasts.

Turning Point

The second inning was the turning point easily. The Reds stole five bases and scored all four of their runs. The Rockies were unable to respond to this strong outburst early in the game. Though it was strange that this one-inning outburst was all the Reds would need.

Lasting Impact

The early struggles of Jorge De La Rosa will need to be monitored as the season progresses. Mark Reynolds launched his first home run of the season.

What’s Next

The final game of this three-game series features Chad Bettis going for the Rockies, hitting the mound against Raisel Iglesias and the Reds. First pitch is at the crack of 10:30 MST, watch the game with some coffee.
