According to MiLB.com, the Colorado Rockies have called up outfield prospect Raimel Tapia.
As for the corresponding move, the Rockies have placed outfielder Gerardo Parra on the bereavement list after the birth of his daughter Friday.
Congratulations to Gerardo!
For those of you who don’t know how the bereavement list works, the player has to miss a minimum of three games and can only miss a maximum of seven. The club has the right to replace the player on leave with another player on the 40-man roster. Which in this case is Tapia.
The Rockies also made another move, placing Jon Gray on the 10-day disabled list with a lingering toe injury that has been nagging him since Spring Training. The team recalled Shane Carle from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Carle, 25, has made two appearances for the Topes out of relief this season. The right-hander has given up four runs on five hits in just three innings of work. Opponents, in very small sample size, are hitting .417 off Carle, posting a WHIP of 2.67. He has recorded three walks and three strikeouts.
Carle went 5-8 with a 5.42 ERA last season for the Topes in 27 appearances, 19 starts.
Tapia, 23, has been absolutely torching the Pacific Coast League over the past few weeks for the Albuquerque Isotopes. The No.5 rated prospect in the Rockies system hit .406/.472/.594 with nine runs scored, six doubles, six RBI, and stole two bases in seven games.
Tapia made his Major League in September of last season, appearing in 22 games. During that time, Tapia hit .263/.293/.263 with ten hits — all singles — with three RBI to go along with three stolen bases.
