Denver – The Colorado Rockies continued their home woes as they dropped one to the Diamondbacks by the score of 10-5.
Take out Tyler Chatwood’s rough fifth inning and the ballgame would’ve been tied, subtract the two two-out base-running outs at third base and the game would’ve resulted in a win, add for a few big hits, that would’ve driven in some of the ten that the team left on base, and it would’ve been a big Rockies win. But the Rockies didn’t do any of these things. Instead, their starter got blown up, their bullpen couldn’t back him up and the offense didn’t really show up. It was a nice weather day in Denver with spring in full bloom, but for the home nine who came in one game back of first place, they couldn’t spring to the opportunity against their NL West foes.

The Rockies got out to a 4-1 lead thanks to the bat of Trevor Story, who knocked in the Rockies first, third and fourth runs with two doubles. He doubled in the first and fourth and continued his tear where he has recorded multiple hits 10 times in the first 31 games of the season.
The Diamondbacks answered with five in the fifth and all of the 22,053 headed to Applejack Wine and Spirts as the game was all but over. They’d tack two more in the seventh and ninth innings where Scott Oberg and Justin Miller struggled. The main man who struggled was Tyler Chatwood who was coming off of a road shutout.
“It’s not mental,” pitcher Tyler Chatwood said of his home struggles. “I think it just so happens to be that way I don’t think I’m throwing the ball bad at home.”
He allowed six earned runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings pitched. In three starts at home, Chatwood has allowed 14 earned runs, while out on the road he has allowed only one in four starts.
“I don’t think he was exactly locked in,” Walt Weiss said. “But I thought he was throwing the ball well until the fifth inning, it was one inning he went right back and had a 1-2-3 in the sixth.”
The Rockies had chances of their own in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings but were only able to come away with one run.
“We had a couple opportunities to push across a couple of runs and we weren’t able to do that.” Trevor Story told. “I can’t pinpoint one thing in particular but there’s always one or two big at-bats in the game, we just need to have those go our way.”
